August 7th Lima Day 4

At last, the sun came out in Lima, so warmer and provided a slightly better view across the city.

Eric Bosc arrived at the hotel and told us he had chickenpox (probably picked up from his children)! As both Uisdean and I had had chickenpox in the past, we carried on as we were unlikely to get it again. Eric took us on a tour of Lima in the SWB Land Rover, and then to his house. We then drove to the coast for lunch at the ‘El Rincon del Gaucho’ in San Isidro (still exists). After lunch I had my first driving experience in Lima, driving back (on the right side of the road of course, and having to get used to changing gear with my right hand) to the Sheraton hotel, and survived without incident The traffic was chaotic, lots of horn blowing and lane indiscipline (I was used to driving a Land Rover round central London, so not a big change really). However, the local drivers were rather less likely to pay respect to other cars, so being in a big solid Land Rover did have some benefit!.

The afternoon was spent walking around central Lima with Uisdean, looking for a market amongst other things, but we failed to find it. We did see the ‘Archdiocesan Shrine of the Heart of Jesus – San Pedro’, a Spanish style church (of which there are many just in Lima), both outside and inside (which was very ‘bling’!). There was a small square near the Church ‘Plazuale del Cercado‘, there are plenty of squares in Lima, plus spotting a  fabric shop displaying its wares as we wandered back to the hotel.

For the first time since arriving I didn’t feel too good in the evening and didn’t eat.
