August 5th Lima Day 2

When we left the hotel in the morning, found the weather was cool and overcast again. We travelled by taxi (relatively cheap at the time in large American cars usually) to San Isidro again with the consultant, where a Telex was waiting, informing me that the delivery address for the equipment boxes couldn’t be changed. We then visited the IPEN office and met the Colonel Director, plus scientists and technicians who would be assisting with setting up the equipment, as well as the geologist who would accompany us on our surveys. We also had a tour of the analytical labs, where some of our samples would be analysed, and also the electronic labs that would be useful during the setting up process. We then travelled back to central Lima, and lunched with Eric Bosc and the consultant at the Hotel Bolivar. Followed by a return to Sheraton Hotel, where one of the hired vehicles had been delivered, and which turned out to be a short-wheelbase Land Rover (SWLR) rather than a Toyota Land Cruiser. The Hotel had an underground car park which is where our vehicles were initially housed and the hire company had access as well.

Then we took a taxi back to San Isidro, before returning to the hotel (taxi) after more discussions (there were many discussions to decide the schedule and locations). We were treated to an evening meal at ‘Cote de Paris’ restaurant with Eric and consultant. I was introduced to the famous Peruvian cocktail – ‘Pisco Sour‘, a drink that became fairly familiar during the work. So, a day of driving around Lima and ‘discussions’ but still no equipment!
