August 17th Lima Day 14
Just a dull morning again in Lima, the last day to get things ready before heading off.
Firstly, Uisdean and I drove both Land Rovers to the Signal office, where we had a review of our maps with Eric. Then, we all headed off to IPEN with both vehicles, where I finished off the last bits of work setting up the electronics. Eric went off to sort his stuff out at home. Uisdean & I loaded up both Land Rovers with the equipment needed – some bits and pieces not wanted initially, were left with IPEN for the time being.
I still needed some nuts & bolts, so I headed back into Lima still searching for a shop that had the needed bits while Uisdean went straight to the Sheraton. After finding some of what I needed, I met up with Uisdean at the Sheraton for lunch and while at the hotel Uisdean and I loaded in our suitcases full of clothes etc. we didn’t need for the fieldwork into the Land Rover.
Following lunch, I went back to IPEN and used the bits I had found at the shops to finish off fixing the equipment. Then, I drove, with Uisdean, to Eric’s house in the SWB Land Rover (with all the electronics fitted now), where Uisdean & I were leaving our unwanted items while we were away, and we stashed our stuff out of the way there, with the help of Eric’s wife.
Then, back to the Sheraton and I have a note in my diary that I had kombucha (a first for me) but no idea what I had it with….
Got my bag for the fieldwork packed, and prepared for the last night in the Sheraton. One item with my things to take has not mentioned before, and that would be carried all round Peru ready for photos, but only actually used once I think, was a (then expensive) tripod, bought along with the other photo equipment just before leaving for Peru – which I still have (hence the photo).
Only one photo today, but it will pick up tomorrow – expect multiple photos!
