August 15th Lima Day 12

Sunday

Slightly less dull morning in Lima, and being Sunday a welcome break from the work.

Eric suggested a visit to another pre-Columbian archaeological site near Lima. This time to the north-east of the city (around 12 km from Lima centre) a site called Cajamarquilla, another adobe and mud brick with a long history. So off we went, after a late breakfast, in the SWB Land Rover, Uisdean, Eric (driving), the consultant and me.

The city was important pre 1000 CE as part of the Lima culture, but was already abandoned by Inca times (14 hundreds).

This is one case where the photos I managed to take are not very useful. For some reason, we weren’t able to wander round the site very much. If you check the link for the site (above) you’ll see a fair amount of ‘restoration’ has taken place. Here are examples of my photos but they are not really very informative. There are more on the photos page for days 8 to 13.

We ended the day at Eric’s house and ate there.
