August 12th Lima Day 9
Grey and hazy morning again. After breakfast, Uisdean and the consultant drove to the aerial photo office in the LWB Land Rover. Meanwhile, I took the SWB Land Rover to the Signal Office. I telexed my office in BGS, London requesting some special electrical plug and sockets that I needed for the electronics, to be shipped out to me by express airmail (after some discussion about the quickest way). Whilst at the office, I heard from IPEN that the equipment from UK might be passed out of customs that day.
Had a loong phone discussion with Eric about the logistics and timing of collecting the shipped equipment (we would need a lorry) and we agreed the, if possible, the next day might be ok, provided with could get the logistics sorted out. We had been informed that we would need a guy from IPEN to be with us to assist with the release from customs..
At the Signal office, we discussed camping requirements, and I tried to finalise a list of camping equipment we would need. We all tried to think of the essentials, and I think Eric suggested some shops we could visit (Uisdean & I got the job) to buy the things like tents, cookers, utensils etc. Later, I had lunch at a local sandwich bar.
After lunch, I drove back into Lima to collect the roof rack for the SWB Land Rover, plus a spare wheel for the LWB. I had a new tyre fitted to the wheel on the way back to the Signal office (getting pretty confident about finding my way around and buying stuff now). Back at Signal, Uisdean, Eric, consultant and I discussed the program before heading to the Bolivar Hotel for the evening meal
No photos from the day – too busy driving and discussing!
NOTE – No credit cards at the time. Uisdean and I were given large amounts of cash (from Signal) to purchase anything needed as an when we went shopping. As we spent, it was just topped up!
